Passing of Roger Hobbs '65 |
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Roger Hobbs, class of 1965, who passed away from a massive heart attack on May 5, 2018. Roger's obituary and services are below:
Roger Lawrence Hobbs was born to Joseph Evan and Loueva Hobbs in Mayfield, Kentucky on December 12, 1947. He was raised in El Monte, California, along with his 5 sisters, Mary, Susan, Kathryn, Carol and Peggy. He attended Nativity Church and school, and Bishop Amat High School, class of 1965. Roger started work early, the summer he was 15, working on his Grandfather’s farm in Kentucky. (He grew up a lot that summer!) Then he began working as a box boy at the nearby Shopping Bag grocery store.
In 1968 he was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War, serving for 2 years. After his service, he continued with a grocery career, working up to manager of the produce department, where he spent most of his career. He married the love of his life, Sandra Faye, in Reno on December 1, 1971. Along with Sandy came two precious children, Michael Edmon (4) and Michelle Ann (3). He graciously took them on and loved them as his own, formally adopting them in 1975. As children do, they grew up quickly, got married, and gave him three grandsons, Eric (27), Gabriel (26) and Cameron (22) and twin granddaughters Taylor and Kaitlyn (25). He is also the proud great grandpa to Brendan (4) and Lilliana (3). Roger was lucky enough to retire and move to Sun Lakes in 2001, when he was a young 54 years old. He loved his new life on the golf course, playing 5 days a week (sometimes more), and serving on the Sun Lakes golf committee for a number of years. Roger deeply loved and was devoted to his wife Sandy through their 47 year marriage. They drew ever closer, each supporting the other, through their many health issues. They made many wonderful new friends during the years here at Sun Lakes, and through their many activities such as bocce ball, marbles, poker, pinochle, and the friendship club. Roger was a good, good man. He loved and LIVED his Catholic faith. He, along with Sandy, served as Eucharistic ministers at their local parish. Roger showed by example to all who knew him his many Godly traits, such as humility, compassion, love of justice, and love of mankind. He was usually the first to accept a new member into the family, as testified by daughter-in-law Patsy. He will be dearly missed by all of us who have had the privilege of knowing him. We are sure that Roger is enjoying his face to face time with Jesus.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the following homeless shelter charity: Mary’s Table P.O. Box 7563 San Bernardino, CA 92411 (Please reference Roger Hobbs in your contribution) In Loving Memory Roger Lawrence Hobbs
