It's Never Too Late

Pat (Flores) Halliwell graduated from USC with a Bachelor of Science in Gerontology in August 2005.  It is never too late to pursue your dreams.  I am currently working towards a Masters in Occupational Therapy at USC.  God willing, I will graduate in 2008.  If anyone is thinking of going back to school to finish up a degree or pursue a new interest I encourage you to do so.  It is certainly a challenge, but it is also a tremendous growth experience.  Being a full time student at age 52 is incredible.

In Memorium - Judith Bonkalski (O'Brien) '63

I'am the husband of Judith Ann Bonkalski (O'Brien) class of 1963. I'm sad to say that Judy passed away on the 6th of March this year. She was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiform brain tumor in August of 2004. Judy, up to that time had never been ill. Judy began a teaching at the high school level in 1967, worked for 2 years, then took 6 years off while our children were small. She returned to teaching in the local catholic school for the next 24 years, then went back to college when the children were educated and she received two master degrees. One in middle school curriculum and the other in school administration. She then applied for the principal position in 1999 at her school and worked in that capacity until she became ill. Judy and I haved lived most of our adult life in Bolingbrook Illinois. We had two children, a boy now 36 and a girl now 33. We've been blessed with 3 grandchildren and one due at the end of September. Judy was a wonderful wife and mother, but most of all she was an educator. Though she is gone, she has left us with many wonferful memories and much wisdom to carry our family forward. God bless, Bernard Bonkalski

Lancer in Baghdad

Robert C. J. Parry ('90), just returned from a one-year tour in Baghdad, Iraq, with the California Army National Guard. It was his second mobilization to the Middle East since 9/11. While in Iraq, he served as an infantry platoon leader and trainer for Iraqi police. After returning, he authored an article on his war experiences titled "The War You Didn't See" which ran on the front page of the LA Times Sunday Opinion section. Robert is now back at home, working in public relations in Cenutry City, and preparing to move to Monrovia with his wife, Maribel. They tied the knot just two weeks before he left for the deployment. His best man was Raymond Peterson ('91).
